So, if you're looking for some commercial hard rock with a bit of a funk vibe? And you wish King's X, went back to their old melodic sound? Well, you should check out Truth Of Fiction from Atlanta, Georgia. This three-piece is unlike anything else that's out now, with vocalist Bennard Slatton sounding like a mix of Lenny Kravitz and Doug Pinnick (King's X). His R&B, soul style is definitely refreshing. Guitarist Eric Sands tears it up on his emotionally charged solos and totally has the rhythmic funk thing down. From the outset of opener "So Damn Clear To Me" the emphasis is clearly on songwriting, choruses, and harmonized backing vocals (similar to early Kings' X), and that's a great thing. The twelve commercially based songs are all singable and memorable in their own right, something that's very rare these days. (Chris Dugan)
