Dave Benedict "Default"
Vancouver's "DEFAULT" fit the definition of straight-ahead hard rock in the early years of the 21st century: the guitar textures and melodic bent of grunge; the dark, brooding earnestness of post-grunge; and the deep, thick-sounding production (but not the rap influences) of new alternative metal. Default's refreshing versatility was enhanced by their use of three ace producers. The bulk of Elocation was produced by Rick Parasher (Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains) in Seattle, while Butch Walker (Sevendust) and Nickelback mainman Chad Kroeger, a key early booster, chimed in on three other cuts. "Each producer has a different way of getting sounds and recording songs," notes bassist Dave Benedict. "That was cool as it puts a different twist on the album." Default
